“I am very glad to beat an Olympic bronze medalist in the final to clinch gold medal. I will try my level best to win more laurels for the country in future.”
Inam Butt won Gold in the 90 kg category wrestling at National Olympic Committee World Beach Games in Doha, Qatar. Butt is Pakistan’s champion Wrestler, and a source of pride for us. When he walks out into the Wrestling ring, you can see his confidence, no matter which opponent he faces.
In the 90 kg wrestling competition, Inam Butt was matched with Olympic Wrestler Dato Marsagishvili. The Olympic Bronze medalist had an upper hand for the first 3 minutes, and then Butt jumped back into the game. Taking lead in the last minute, Inam won another Gold medal for Pakistan on an international stage.
Born in Gujranwala, one of Pakistan’s smaller cities, Butt got into wrestling at an early age and never looked back. He is currently the most decorated athlete in Wrestling in Pakistan, with Gold medals in several competitions. He has won Gold and Silver in Commonwealth Games, at World Beach Games, Asian Beach Games & Commonwealth Wrestling Championships.
Government of Pakistan awarded ‘Pride of Performance’ award to Inam Butt in 2019. He also won ‘Sportsman of the Year 2019’ at Pakistan Sports Awards. He is very vocal about the lack of funding for Wrestlers and other athletes in Pakistan, but hopes to change this scenario with his iron will.
We wish the champ very good luck for all his future performances, may you keep shining on!
